How to Make Halloween Resin Decorations: Easy Spooky Resin DIYs

Halloween is a great time to try resin crafting because you can turn simple silicone molds into tiny pumpkins, ghosts, bats, skulls, spiders, potion bottles, and other spooky decorations. With UV resin, you can create small Halloween pieces relatively quickly, and you can customize them with glitter, mica powder, dried flowers, charms, and other decorative elements.

This craft is especially good for adults and experienced older crafters who enjoy detailed handmade projects and want to create personalized Halloween decorations, charms, keychains, jewelry pieces, or little gifts. Resin crafting does require proper ventilation and protective equipment, so it is important to prepare your workspace before starting.

What You Need to Make Halloween Resin Crafts

For small Halloween projects, you'll need UV resin and suitable silicone resin molds. Halloween molds are available in all kinds of shapes, including ghosts, pumpkins, bats, skulls, spiders, moons, coffins, and Halloween lettering.

You'll also want UV resin pigment or mica powder if you want to color your resin. Black, orange, purple, green, silver, and red are especially useful for Halloween projects. A tiny amount can create a dramatic effect without hiding the details of your mold.

For sparkle, pick up fine glitter, chunky glitter, or Halloween-themed glitter. You can also use tiny resin-safe charms, stars, moons, bats, or other decorative pieces. If you're making something such as a keychain, you'll need jump rings and keychain hardware too.

One of the most important parts of your supply list is your protective equipment. You'll need appropriate disposable gloves and protective eyewear, and depending on the resin manufacturer's safety instructions, appropriate respiratory protection may be necessary. You should also work in a well-ventilated area and follow the safety instructions on the specific resin product you're using.

A UV resin lamp is needed to cure UV resin. A silicone work mat, disposable mixing tools, resin droppers, and small measuring cups can also make your workspace much easier to clean and organize.

Step 1: Prepare Your Resin Workspace

Before opening your resin, prepare your workspace.

Choose a stable, well-ventilated area away from food, drinks, children, and pets. Cover the surface with a silicone craft mat or another suitable protective covering so accidental drops don't permanently damage your table.

Put on the protective equipment recommended by your resin manufacturer. Keep your supplies organized so you don't have to reach across the workspace while working.

It is also a good idea to read the instructions for your particular UV resin before starting. Different products can have different curing requirements and safety recommendations.

Step 2: Choose Your Halloween Mold

Choose a silicone mold based on what you want to make.

A pumpkin mold is perfect for a classic Halloween decoration, while a ghost can create something cute. Skull, bat, spider, coffin, and haunted-house molds are great if you want a darker Halloween aesthetic.

You can make several pieces at once if your mold contains multiple shapes.

Before pouring, make sure the mold is clean and completely dry. Even a small amount of dust can become visible inside a clear resin piece.

Step 3: Add Your Halloween Color

Pour a small amount of UV resin into a disposable mixing cup or directly into your mold if the product instructions allow it.

Add a very small amount of resin pigment or mica powder and mix carefully. Start with a tiny amount because you can always add more color.

Try orange for pumpkins, purple for magical Halloween pieces, green for witchy decorations, or black for gothic designs.

You can also leave some resin clear and combine it with colored resin to create a layered effect.

Step 4: Add Glitter and Decorations

Now add your Halloween details.

Sprinkle in a small amount of glitter, or add tiny resin-safe decorative elements. A clear ghost with silver glitter can look magical, while a black bat with purple glitter can create a gothic effect.

You can also create layers. Pour a thin layer of resin, add glitter or decorations, cure it according to the manufacturer's directions, and then add another layer.

For very small molds, use a fine tool or resin applicator to position decorations precisely.

Remember that adding too many decorations can make it difficult for UV light to reach the deeper parts of the resin, so keep layers and embellishments appropriate for your particular resin and lamp.

Step 5: Cure the Resin With a UV Light

Place the filled mold under your UV resin lamp and cure the resin according to the resin manufacturer's instructions.

The exact curing time depends on the product, thickness, pigment, mold, and lamp, so don't rely on one universal curing time.

For thicker or highly pigmented pieces, you may need to use thinner layers rather than trying to cure one thick piece all at once.

Check that the piece is properly cured before handling it extensively.

Step 6: Remove Your Halloween Creation From the Mold

Once your piece is completely cured, gently flex the silicone mold and remove the resin piece.

This is the exciting part because you finally get to see your Halloween design!

If you're making a pumpkin, you might have a shiny orange pumpkin covered with glitter. If you're making a ghost, you could have a translucent white ghost with tiny sparkles floating inside.

Take a moment to check the edges and surface. If your finished piece needs additional finishing, follow the instructions appropriate for your particular resin product.

Step 7: Turn Your Resin Pieces Into Halloween Accessories

There are many things you can make from Halloween resin molds.

Small pieces can become keychains, charms, jewelry, magnets, ornaments, bag decorations, or small seasonal decorations. Larger resin shapes can be displayed on a Halloween shelf, table, or craft area.

For a keychain, you can use a mold designed with a hole or carefully add appropriate hardware using a method suitable for your resin piece.

You could also make matching sets. Imagine a purple bat keychain, orange pumpkin charm, green ghost charm, and black cat charm all made using the same resin technique.

Halloween Resin Ideas to Try

Once you have the basic technique down, you can experiment with different designs.

Make a glittery ghost with translucent resin and silver glitter. Create a black bat with purple mica powder. Make tiny orange pumpkins with green stems. Try a clear skull with floating black glitter. Or make a dark moon-and-stars piece with gold or silver accents.

You can also make a complete Halloween collection using one color palette. A combination of black, orange, purple, and silver can make the pieces look like they belong together.

This is especially useful if you're making decorations or gifts because you can create a coordinated set instead of several unrelated pieces.

Why Halloween Resin Crafts Are So Fun

Resin crafts are great for Halloween because they let you create very detailed little objects that would be difficult to make from some other materials. A simple silicone mold can become a colorful pumpkin, spooky ghost, creepy skull, or sparkling bat.

They're also highly customizable. Two people can use exactly the same mold and end up with completely different results depending on the colors, glitter, charms, and finishing details they choose.

These projects are particularly appealing to adult crafters, resin hobbyists, Halloween decorating enthusiasts, and people who enjoy making personalized gifts and accessories.
